2004 - Dr. Kent Garman started the process to establish the San Mateo Coastside MRC unit.
Sept., 2005 - San Mateo Coastside MRC approved by the Federal government
2006-7 - $10,000 NACCHO grant (award) applied for and received by San Mateo Coastside MRC
May 31, 2008 - First organizational meeting of the San Mateo Coastside MRC July 30, 2008 - We now have a new MRC Director, Michael Klass, MD. Dr. Kent Garman has stepped down but will continue to consult on MRC matters. Don O'Keefe (HMB Police Chief), Kevin Rose (San Mateo County Emergency Medical Services Authority), and Elizabeth Martinez-Yano (HMB Police Department) will assist Dr. Klass.
Sept. 15, 2008 - Application completed for $5,000 NACCHO Capacity Building Award (grant) from the Office of the Surgeon General of the Civilian Medical Reserve Corps (OCVMRC). The funding, awarded by the National Association of County and City Health Officials (NACCHO) on behalf of OCVMRC, supports Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) unit activities and will be used to pay for increased recruitment efforts, training of volunteers, supplies (i.e. a tent, banner, first aid supplies, storage) for our MRC unit, equipment, and some reimbursement for participation in conferences or disaster drills.

November 13, 2008 - During the California statewide "GOLDEN DRAGON I" disaster drill in San Diego, the San Mateo County Medical/Health Operational Area Coordinator (MHOAC) was contacted by the State Joint Emergency Operations Center (JEOC) requesting MRC volunteers to assist with the earthquake drill in Southern California. Per the San Mateo Coastside MRC Unit Director’s permission, MHOAC sent a mission deployment request via Disaster Healthcare Volunteers of California to MRC unit members to test response times. Within 24 hours, 20 of 28 SMC MRC members responded to the request. They were not physically deployed. November 15, 2008 - SMC MRC Orientation meeting; Triage (S.T.A.R.T.) presentation
December 4, 2008 - Michael Klass and Elizabeth Martinez Yano attended a seminar in Sacramento to become administrators of the Disaster Healthcare Volunteers of California website and alert system.
December 31, 2008 - SMC MRC awarded a $5,000 NACCHO Capacity Building Award (CBA)

March 11, 2009- SILVER DRAGON III exercise - Sponsored by the CDC and Bio-terrorism unit of the San Mateo County Public Health Dept. and EMSA; This mass prophylaxis exercise included 5 CERT team members, 15 SMC MRC members, HMB Police & Fire Department, San Mateo County Health Department observers, and members of the ARES ham-radio organization. This exercise also tested the call-down system for Disaster Healthcare Volunteers of California.
March 17-April 4, 2009 - CERT training class provided for the SMC MRC by David Cosgrave and the Coastside Fire (Cal-Fire) Protection District.
March 20, 2009 - Bay Area bio-terrorism, point of distribution (POD) exercise at the Oakland Coliseum. Michael Klass & Janet Didur participated in this large scale exercise.
April 4-8, 2009 - The National Medical Reserve Corps co-sponsored the 2009 Integrated Medical, Public Health, Preparedness and Response Training Summit with the National Disaster Medical System (NDMS), the Emergency System for Advance Registration of Volunteer Health Professionals (ESAR-VHP), and the Office of Force Readiness and Deployment (OFRD). The summit was held in Dallas, TX with 3,200 attendees. The Director and 1 Steering Committee member attended.
May 20-21, 2009 - California state-wide MRC conference; Redondo Beach, California. Attended by the director, James Howie, & Rebecca Dennison.
June 27, 2009 - General meeting & Steering Committee Meeting of the SMC MRC July 14, 27 & August 4 - American Heart Association CPR training for members
September 25, 2009 - Seasonal flu vaccination clinic for first responders, MRC, CERT-team members, teachers, and families; 7 RNs & PHNs; 14 participants; 135 people vaccinated.
October 6-9, 2009 - Western U.S. MRC Summit Meeting (Cody, Wyoming); Attended by Michael Klass, Jane Kingston, and Marilyn Dittes

December, 2009 - Through a Homeland Security grant, San Mateo County purchased a 24 foot disaster treatment tent, 10,000 KW generator, lights, cots, chairs and medical supplies for the SMCMRC.
December, 2009 - The 10 Bay Area MRC units were awarded a $150,000 UASI (Urban Area Security Initiative) grant for emergency medical supplies.
